Tata Communications appoints Kabir Ahmed Shakir as Chief Financial Officer

 Tata Communications on Tuesday announced the appointment of Kabir Ahmed Shakir as its Chief Financial Officer.


The appointment comes with effect from October 21, 2020. He will be responsible for the strategic financial management of the company, including investor relations, the company said in a statement.

Shakir until recently was the CFO of Microsoft India.

Kabir Ahmed Shakir, the newly appointed CFO said: "The company has shown remarkable business performance which is being recognised by the market and key stakeholders. I look forward to building on the company's financial strategy and delivering value to shareholders, as the company continues on its path of achieving profitable growth and being seen as a leading digital ecosystem enabler globally."

In a regulatory filing, the company said that its board of on Tuesday accepted the resignation of Pratibha Advani as the CFO with effect from October 20.

Tata Comm inks deal with Singapore-based firm; stock zooms 28% in two days

Shares of  Tata Communications rallied 11 per cent on the BSE on Thursday to hit a fresh 52-week high of Rs 465 after the company and Singapore-based Kacific inked a global IP connectivity and cyber security deal. In the past two trading days, the stock has zoomed 28 per cent from its Tuesday’s closing price of Rs 364 on the BSE.

“Kacific Broadband Satellites Group (Kacific) has selected Tata Communications, a leading global digital infrastructure provider, to provide terrestrial connectivity services as it readies for the launch of its first satellite, Kacific1,” Tata Group Company said in a press release.

Tata Communications will provide global internet and state-of-the-art cyber security services for Kacific’s Ka-band satellite network.

Tata Communications is a leading digital infrastructure service provider and is one of the world’s largest telecommunication companies with a global network reaching over 200 countries and territories.

Kacific1 is a High Throughput Satellite (HTS) that will use 56 high-power Ka-band beams to deliver affordable, high-speed broadband to telecommunications companies, internet service providers and governments in South East Asia and the Pacific.

At 11:24 am, the stock was trading 5 per cent higher at Rs 440 on the BSE, as compared to a marginal 0.03 per cent rise in the S&P BSE Sensex. The trading volumes on the counter jumped over four-fold with a combined 2.95 million shares changing hands on the NSE and BSE so far.

Tata Communications names Amur Lakshminarayanan as MD, Group CEO designate

Digital infrastructure provider, Tata Communications has named Amur S Lakshminarayanan as Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer designate of the company.

"As MD and CEO Designate, Lakshminarayanan will advise the interim management committee of Tata Communications. Upon receipt of necessary regulatory approvals, the Board of Tata Communications will subsequently appoint Lakshminarayanan as the MD and CEO of Tata Communications," a company statement said.

Lakshminarayanan comes with 35 years of experience in a broad range of leadership roles across industries and regions across the world, the company said in a statement.

"Most recently at TCS, he successfully managed and developed scalable businesses. His roles in the company included President and CEO of TCS Japan, Global Head of Telecom, Media and Information Services, HiTech and Utilities, and Head of TCS UK and Europe," the statement added.

Commenting on the appointment, Renuka Ramnath, Chairperson of Tata Communications, said, "Lakshminarayanan experience, exposure to industry best practice, leadership style and focus on action will help accelerate Tata Communications to achieve greater heights".
